Thank you to all our awesome LAA members and supporters for making 2018 such a great year! The Lasso Alumni Association truly appreciates your support! We’re looking forward to another outstanding year in 2019 as we promote the TJHS Lasso Legacy! In this issue we’ll let you know some of the exciting events on the horizon and we’ll also look back on the fun we had during the last half of 2018.
LOOK at what we accomplished in 2018 and what FUN we had doing it! Roping with FUN AND FLAIR ……
Awarded 6 scholarships to seniors in the amount of $1,500 each for a total of $9,000
Coordinated the writing of a book on the Lassos History
Participated in a roping clinic in preparation for Lasso tryouts and continued providing roping training/support.
Facilitated a photo shoot with Lassos for the fashion designer, Marc Jacobs’ spring line
Judged Lasso tryouts and paid for professional judges
Held fundraiser at Kendra Scott and participated in the Big Give charity drive
Assisted Lassos with purchase of competition outfits
Sold Fiesta medals and raffle tickets
Held LAA’s 10th Annual Social & Fundraiser at Los Barrios
Attended Jefferson Educational Leadership Community meetings, hosted by Ed Garza
New Lasso/Parent Meeting – Offered financial aid for uniforms and dance wear
Purchased ads in the Monticello yearbook and in the Mighty Mustang football program
Attended and supported the Lassos during Chuckwagon and Jeff on Parade, the Jefferson Ice Cream Social, the Lasso Spring Show, The Tommy Bowl, the SAISD Dance Festival at the Alamo Convocation Center, the Rodeo Parade and the Crowd Pleasers competition in Seguin
Hosted a dinner at Spaghetti Warehouse honoring the Lassos
Awarded Lasso seniors a year’s membership to LAA and a silver rope charm
Sponsored the Lassos summer camp provided by Crowd Pleasers
Provided meals to the Lassos, director and managers for several events
Provided Spirit Bags for Lassos before games
Held 5th annual Boots, Birdie & Bogey Golf Tournament at Cool Crest Miniature Golf
Invited Lassos to play in the tournament; spots donated by sponsors
Attended Alumni Football game (Jefferson vs. Burbank) & roped at half-time
Attended class reunions to provide information on LAA
Inventoried, measured and distributed all Lasso uniforms, ponchos, and garment bags
Ordered spurs straps for the Lasso officers’ boots
Attended the SAISD Foundations Award Dinner in honor of our Lasso Sister, Marcia Nasatir
It’s Time to Renew Your TJHS LASSO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP Your membership helps the Lasso Alumni Association provide: Financial aid for Lasso uniforms and Summer camp. Scholarships for graduating Lassos Preserve and promote the rich Lasso tradition and much more! Membership categories are as follows: $40.00 annually for Lasso Alumni $25.00 annually for non-Alumni $250.00 for a Life-Time membership Log on to lassos.org to print and complete your membership application. We also accept membership dues and donations via PayPal at lassos.org. Lasso History-Lasso Book Launch Did you know we are working on a Lasso History Book? We are so excited about the progress being made by Shirley Wills and her committee. They have been working diligently to publish a book that will honor the Lasso legacy. Look for a book launch sometime this summer or fall!!

Thursday, March 28th is the Big Give SA!
The Big Give is a One day online giving event! Hundreds of Non-Profit Organizations are participating from San Antonio in a day of Generosity. The Lasso Alumni Association is participating once again and it’s a great way to help us support the Lassos. Please donate to the TJHS LAA online! 12 am to 12 pm that day! This is a great opportunity to support the TJHS LAA and Lassos from afar!

GREAT DAY, SA! GREAT DAY, LASSOS!
On January 30, 2019 our Talented Lassos and their leader, Mary Garcia appeared on Great Day SA! They did an incredible job representing TJHS and the Lassos! They showed everyone their excellent roping and performing skills! We are so proud of our Lasso sisters! Check out our Facebook page for videos of the performance!
TJHS Alumni Football Game
Thank you to the Lasso Alumni who joined our current Lassos on the football field for the Alumni Game in 2018! Wearing our “Once a Lasso, Always a Lasso” t-shirts we marched onto the field and showed off our roping skills. We had fun and hope to see even more of you join us this fall! Ropes up!
LAA Boots, Birdie and Bogey Classic Miniature Golf Tournament
No rain or shine could stop us from having our Classic Miniature Golf Tournament. We had rain but moved it to another day and what a beautiful night for a miniature golf tournament! We had many spectators who enjoyed the evening of delicious food, drinks and competition! We had a costume contest and some very creative teams! Prizes were awarded for costumes and for the best team golfers.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this exciting event! Special thanks to all our sponsors who made our LAA Boots, Birdie and Bogey Classic Miniature Golf Tournament possible and successful! A special shout out to Rose Calderon for her hard work organizing the event!

LAA Holiday Party
Our Jingle Mingle Holiday Party was all kinds of Jolly with a visit from Santa. We enjoyed great food, mimosas and tea as we mingled with our Lasso sisters and friends! It was a joyous start to the holiday season! Terry Mazuca-Garcia shared our LAA accomplishments for the year during this last meeting of 2018. Many of our guests were lucky enough to receive Door prizes and all guests left with gift wrapped cookies and a greeting card from the board.
Kudos to Melina Pantoja Lopez for organizing a beautiful party!
