Meet the 2023 LAA Scholarship Recipients

 In Fiesta, Lassos

The mission of the Lasso Alumni Association is to support, promote and preserve the rich history and traditions of the Lassos.  One of the ways we support the Lassos is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors.  Thank you to our generous members and community for providing donations and support to make this happen.  Each scholarship recipient received $2500 this year.

The LAA is proud to introduce you to our very talented 2022-2023 scholarship recipients.

Sarah Estrada is the recipient of the Constance Douglas & Jack Long

Scholarship.  Sarah was awarded this leadership scholarship because she had 30 college credit hours, a high GPA, active in the National Honor Society (NHS), and was the 2022-23 Rope & Dance Captain. Sarah plans to attend UTSA in the fall to study Biology. She is interested in becoming a veterinarian and is interested in working at the Animal Shelter. Sarah’s advice to Lassos is to never give up and work hard to achieve your goals.

~Constance Douglas was the founder of the Lassos in 1932.  Jack Long was a Jeff graduate and taught roping skills to the Lassos for 3 decades.

Abril Garcia is the recipient of the JoAnn Erhlich Dickinson Scholarship. Abril was given this impressive scholarship because she loves her community and the world of dance. She enjoys many extra-curricular activities including choir, mariachi, and NHS. Abril would like to be the first in her family to attend college. She plans to study Forensic Science at Our Lady of the Lake University. Abril wants Lassos to follow their dreams to become strong and independent women.
